UK University International Qualifications Guide

Entry requirements will differ depending on the course and university you choose.
Specialist courses such as medicine and courses at top-ranked universities may have higher entry requirements than those listed below.

  • You will also need to meet the English Language requirements to get a UK Student Visa.
  • Undergraduates: if your grades are lower than the entry requirements you may want to consider studying for a UK foundation degree, which once completed will give you entry to a full undergraduate degree.
  • MBA students usually need at least 3 years of work experience at the management level.
  • Some universities will consider your application if you have extensive work experience in your chosen subject.
  • Most universities accept undergraduate applications from students with A-Levels, the International Baccalaureate, Advanced Placement exams, or UK foundation degrees.
  • Postgraduate applications will be accepted from students with UK undergraduate degrees from a recognised university.

Entry Requirements for Students from Bangladesh

Undergraduates: Bangladeshi qualifications accepted include the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) (typically with a CGPA of 4.5 out 5.0 or above), Alim, Dhakil and other Bangladeshi School qualifications. Depending on your grades, some universities may ask you to complete a foundation year before you can begin the full undergraduate degree.
Postgraduates: You will need a four to a five-year honours degree (with a CPGA of approximately 3.0 out of 4.0) from a recognised university in Bangladesh. Alternatively, you may be considered for entry if you have a two-year first degree plus a two-year Master’s degree from a recognised university in Bangladesh.

Entry Requirements for Students from Canada

Undergraduates: The Canadian Secondary School Diploma is accepted by British universities. Depending on where you studied, you will need to have scored approximately 65-70% and upwards in five grade 12 subjects.
Postgraduates: You will need a Bachelor’s degree. Your GPA must be approximately a minimum of 2.3 on the Canadian 4.0 scale. Higher ranked universities will request a GPA minimum of at least 3.3.

Entry Requirements for Students from Cyprus

Undergraduates: The Cypriot Apolyitirion of Lykeion (School Leaving Certificate) with a minimum of 16 or higher is required at most British universities. Depending on your grades, some universities may ask you to complete a foundation year before you can begin the full undergraduate degree.
Postgraduates: You will need a good three or four year Bachelor’s degree from a recognised university or the Ptychion from the University of Cyprus. Your application will also be considered if you have good grades for a Lisans Diplomasi from a Turkish university.

Entry Requirements for Students from France

Undergraduates: The French Baccalauréat Général or Technologique with good grades are accepted at most British universities. Your application will also be considered if you have studied the Brevet de Technicien (BT) Brevet Professionnel (BP) or a 2 year Diplôme D’Etat de Technicien.
Postgraduates: You will need a Bachelor's degree from a recognised university with good grades. You may also be considered if you are a Diplôme d'Ingénieur, a Diplôme from an Ecole Supérieure or you have a Maîtrise.

Entry Requirements for Students from Germany

Undergraduates: You will need a German Abitur with a minimum grade of 1.3. You may also be considered if you have one of the following qualifications: Zeugnis der Allgemeinen, Zeugnis der Fachgebundenen Hochschulreife or the Zeugnis der Fachhochschulreife.
Postgraduates: You will need a Bachelor's degree (Diplom, Erstes Staatsexamen or Magister Artium) from a recognised university with good grades.

Entry Requirements for Students from Greece

Undergraduates: You will need an Apolytirion of Lykeio with good grades (minimum 15).
Postgraduates: You will need a Ptychion or a Bachelor's degree from a recognised university with good grades.

Entry Requirements for Students from Hong Kong

Undergraduates: You will need a minimum of two HKAL/GCE A-levels or equivalent with good grades. Many universities also accept the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE).
Postgraduates: You will need a Bachelor's degree from a recognised university with good grades. GPA requirements differ and can range from 2.6 to 3.2.

Entry Requirements for Students from Italy

Undergraduates: You will need the Italian Esame di Stato. Grade requirements will vary from approximately 70 and up. The Diploma di Maturità is also accepted by most universities in the United Kingdom.
Postgraduates: You will need a Bachelor's degree from a recognised university with good grades. Your application will also be considered by most universiteis if you have a Diploma di Laurea, Corsi di Laurea Specialistica, Corsi di Specializzazione di primo livello or Laurea di Accademia di Belle Arti.

Entry Requirements for Students from Japan

Undergraduates: Entry requirements at most universities require you to have completed an associate degree or a diploma from a Junior College (Jun-Gakushi). Kotogakko Sotsugyo Shomeisho together with a Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) is also considered. Alternatively, you may also be considered if you have completed year 1 at a Japanese university and achieved a good grade.
Postgraduates: You will need a Bachelor's degree from a recognised university with a GPA of approximately 2.8 or above.

Entry Requirements for Students from Malaysia

Undergraduates: Your application will be considered if you have the Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (SPTM) with good grades. Other qualifications accepted depending on the course and university you choose include the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC), Polytechnic Diploma, and the Matrikulasi.
Postgraduates: You will need a Bachelor's degree from a recognised university with a GPA of approximately 2.8 or above.

Entry Requirements for Students from Nigeria

Undergraduates:  universities accept the Senior School Certificate (SSCE) or West African Senior School Certificate (WAEC) or the NECO with a minimum of 5 subjects with a grade of C plus a recognised university foundation course or at least one year of undergraduate studies at a recognised Nigerian university with an average CGPA of approximately 3.2. If you only have WAEC, you may be considered for a UK foundation degree which can lead to a full undergraduate degree.
Postgraduates: You will need a Bachelor’s degree with an average CGPA of 3.0 or higher from a recognised Nigerian university. Some universities may also require you to have already undertaken some postgraduate level study.

Entry Requirements for Students from Pakistan

Undergraduates: A two-year degree from Pakistan with good grades will be considered for entry in the first year of a UK Bachelor’s degree. A Diploma of Associate Engineer (DAE) with a score of over 60% may also be considered. If you have a FA, FSC or HSSC qualification, you will typically be required to complete a Foundation degree before you start your Bachelor’s degree unless you have exceptional grades.
Postgraduates: You will need either a 4-year Bachelor’s degree from a recognised university. A 3-year Bachelor’s degree in a technical subject may also be considered. Alternatively, you may be considered if you have a 2 or 3-year Bachelor’s degree plus a 2-year Master’s degree from a recognised university.

Entry Requirements for Students from Poland

Undergraduates: The Polish Matura and Swiadectwo Dojrzałości with good grades are acceptable for most UK undergraduate degrees. Diplomas from Technikums may also be considered depending on your subject choice.
Postgraduates: You will need a Bachelor's degree with a good grade from a recognised university. Other qualifications considered by some universities include the Licencjat, Inżynier and Magister.

Entry Requirements for Students from South Korea

Undergraduates: You will need a Junior College Diploma or 1 year of study at a recognised University in South Korea with a minimum GPA of 2.8 to 3.7 or higher. A CSAT with good grades may also be considered.
Postgraduates: Most universities will accept good grades from a 4-year Haksa degree from a recognised university. Required GPAs can range from 2.8 to 3.25 or higher.

Entry Requirements for Students from Spain

Undergraduates: You will need Título de Bachillerato (BACH) or Curso de Orientación (COU). The Selectividad may also be considered. Other qualifications also accepted by most universities are Técnico Especialista, Técnico Superior (new system), Diplomado and the Diplomatura.
Postgraduates: Licenciado, Título de Ingeniero and Título de Arquitecto with good grades are accepted at most British  universities.

Entry Requirements for Students from Sri Lanka

Undergraduates: Sri Lankan A-Levels with good grades are accepted. Other qualifications such as the NCC Foundation Course may also be considered.
Postgraduates: You will need either a three or four-year degree with a minimum grade of approximately 60%-70%.

Entry Requirements for Students from Thailand

Undergraduates: You will need to have successfully completed 1 year at a recognised Thai university with good grades. If you have a Mathayom 6 (MAW), you will need to complete a UK Foundation Degree before progressing to the full undergraduate degree.
Postgraduates: Your application will be considered if you have completed a Bachelor’s degree at a Thai university with a minimum GPA of between 2.6 to 3.25 and up.
